The Mesquite Police Department is always one of the top, if not the top paying agencies in the DFW Metroplex.

That, combined with the flexible hours needed to attend college, make this an ideal position for any young man or woman wanting to become part of the Mesquite Police Department before turning 21 years of age.

Public Safety Dispatchers

Public Safety Dispatchers start at $14.00 per hour and, like detention officers, need only be 18 years of age. Dependant upon successful completion of experience and skills based testing, the position pays up to $14.85 /hr. by the end of the 1st year. These skills enable employees to be promoted to Communications Operator II, earning $16.29/hr. as early as 14 months after the hire date. Like the detention officer position, this job is a great one to have while attending college or prior to making application to police officer. Of course not everyone applies for this position with the intentions of becoming a police officer; it is a great career unto itself.
