APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Lateral transfer officers working in a patrol capacity at a Texas agency with less than 100 people goes up one step for every two years of experience. (up to five years).
  • Lateral transfer officers shall be 21 to 55 years of age at the time of application.
  • Lateral transfer officers working in a patrol capacity at a Texas agency with more than 100 people goes up one step for every one year of experience (up to five years).
  • Lateral transfer officers from other states will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • Lateral transfer equivalent eligibility pay will be determined during the application process.

Non Texas Peace Officers

Any officer who is not currently an active Peace Officer within the State of Texas will be required to attend the entire Mesquite Police Academy. This includes out of State officers who have challenged the TCOLE exam. All members of the Mesquite Police Academy will undergo the same training, including but not limited to:

  • Firearms
  • Driving
  • Defensive tactics
  • OC spray exposure
  • Taser exposure
  • required physical training
  • Rigorous academic testing
  • Practical exercises

INCENTIVES

  • Academy- Not required to go back through basic peace officer academy. As long as your TCOLE license is current.
  • In-Service training- Reduced down to 2 - 5 weeks, depending on your level of TCOLE licensure.
  • Field Training- May be reduced from 17 weeks down to 8 weeks, depending on officers level of licensure and previous patrol experience.
