Starting Salary: $14.00/hr.

Will provide a variety of specialized and routine tasks in the provision of emergency and non-emergency communications services. Will answer emergency and non-emergency calls for the Police and Fire Departments. Will provide emergency dispatch services for the Police and Fire Departments.

Dependent upon successful completion of experience and skills based testing, the position pays up to $14.85 /hr. by the end of the 1st year. These skills enable employees to be promoted to Communications Operator II, earning $16.29/hr. as early as 14 months after the hire date.

   
 

Must be 18 years of age, have a High School Diploma or GED on hire date. No experience required. Applications will be accepted from candidates 6 months prior to receiving High School Diploma/GED and 18th birthday.

An Applicant’s History Questionnaire must be completed and returned to the Human Resources Department at time of testing. Position requires candidate to be willing to work 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th shift including weekends, holidays and extended hours in emergency, disaster, or other situations.

TESTING REQUIRED: Must pass Typing Test (35 wpm), CritiCALL testing.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older on hire date
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent on hire date
  • Type 35 wpm (testing required)
  • Type 35 wpm prior to completion of probationary period as condition of continued employment
  • Able to search prisoners, as needed
  • Able to work all shifts
  • Ability to successfully complete the Mesquite Police Department hiring process

  • Marriage license or licenses (original, if applicable)
